Easy to DIY, this scrub is oh-so effective, just keep in mind that you don’t want to use a physical exfoliant like this more than once a week. It can be too harsh if you’re overusing it. Most of these things you find in your own pantry, feel free to mix and match according to your own favorite scents and flavours. Really the most important part is making sure you have something that is mildly abrasive, in this case the sugar, and then something that will hydrate your lips, like coconut oil.
STEP 1
Combine the sugar and oil.
IN A SMALL BOWL, COMBINE ROUGHLY THREE TABLESPOONS OF SUGAR WITH YOUR OIL. WHILE WE COULD GIVE YOU A PRECISE MEASUREMENT, YOU’RE BETTER OFF JUST ADDING A LITTLE BIT AT THE TIME UNTIL YOUR SUGAR MIXTURE LOOSELY RESEMBLES WET SAND. YOU DON’T WANT THE SUGAR TO BE OVERWHELMED BY THE OIL. YOU SIMPLY WANT THE OIL TO HELP HOLD IT ALL TOGETHER, SO AIR ON THE SIDE OF CAUTION WHEN ADDING OIL.
STEP 2
Add your scent.
AGAIN, THIS IS ENTIRELY UP TO YOUR OWN SCENT AND FLAVOUR PREFERENCE, BUT WE WANTED TO GO WITH SOMETHING THAT FELT YUMMY AND FRUITY ALL AT THE SAME TIME. START BY ADDING A DROP OR TWO OF VANILLA EXTRACT. THEN ADD A FEW DROPS OF GRAPEFRUIT ESSENTIAL OIL. AGAIN, START SMALL, YOU CAN ALWAYS ADD MORE BUT YOU CAN’T FIX IT ONCE YOU’VE ADDED TOO MUCH. YOU ALSO DON’T WANT THE SCENT OR FLAVOUR TO BE OVERWHELMING! THESE INGREDIENTS ARE PURELY OPTIONAL OR CAN BE SWAPPED IN OR OUT. THE MOST IMPORTANT PART IS THE SUGAR AND OIL, THOSE ARE THE REAL WORKHORSES HERE.
STEP 3
Apply or store the scrub.
NOW THIS BEAUTIFUL LIP SCRUB IS READY TO USE! SIMPLY APPLY A GENEROUS AMOUNT TO YOUR MOUTH AND GENTLY RUB TO EXFOLIATE. AGAIN, TAKE IT EASY. YOU DON’T WANT TO OVER DO IT. THIS WILL HELP TO REMOVE ANY DEAD DRY SKIN WHILST ALSO HYDRATING. USING A SMALL SCOOP OR SPOON, PLACE ANY ADDITIONAL SCRUB INTO AN EMPTY COSMETIC POT. THIS WILL ALLOW YOU TO STORE IT UP TO A COUPLE OF MONTHS. IF YOU DON’T HAVE SOMETHING FANCY AVAILABLE A SMALL LITTLE PLASTIC CONTAINER WORKS WONDERS HERE TOO, PLUS THE SEAL MIGHT JUST KEEP IT FRESHER THAN ANYTHING ELSE. AND WHO ARE YOU KIDDING, IF YOU’RE USING THIS MAGICAL MIXTURE AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK, IT WON’T BE AROUND FOR VERY LONG. ENJOY EVERY MINUTE OF THIS DIY BEAUTY TREATMENT!
