KARL LAGERFELD SPRING 2021 WOMEN’S COLLECTION

The KARL LAGERFELD Spring 2021 women’s collection celebrates one of Karl Lagerfeld’s favorite fascinations: the future. The theme examines how digital technology is shaping modern design and bringing new meaning to fashion fundamentals. This season’s signature styles fuse feminine and futuristic details — think iridescent colors, transparent fabrics and structured silhouettes — for a chic take on KARL classics.

Inspired by retro arcades and analogue video games, the collection opens with distinctly pixelated and colorful graphics. A wrap dress with sheer bell sleeves is covered with a contemporary all-over KARL logo print. A menswear-inspired shirt dress is kept feminine with silk fabric and voluminous sleeves; it also features the word KARL in a play of large and small proportions. Outerwear includes a transformer trench coat — a two-in-one design that can be worn as a dress or a cropped jacket — and a draped trench, which is crafted from coated nylon with a metallic interior and dainty shoulder detailing.

A range of gender fluid styles embrace a masculine-meets-feminine feel. Unisex silhouettes include an essential trench coat crafted from recycled polyester; a jean jacket in washed grey denim; two-tone reversible sweatpants; and a white poplin shirt. For women, a metallic silver raincoat can be paired with an airy, fluid silk maxi dress with a gathered waist detail. For casual occasions, premium (unisex) sweats include KARL logos and artworks of Karl and Choupette, created with a puffy, balloon-effect finish in iridescent colors.

Further embracing a futuristic aesthetic, a sheer, plaid organza trench coat embraces a contemporary cover-up effect. A pleated lace skirt and pleated lace evening dress are both crafted from recycled polyester. To keep at-home style looking sophisticated, a tailored blazer is made from soft jersey, while sweatshirts and tees feature shoulder puffs, bell sleeves and ruffled hemlines.

The collection is completed by a capsule designed for the “work from home” movement, with five styles offering chic comfort for on-camera calls. Crafted from an ultra-soft cashmere blend fabric, the range includes a sweatshirt, tunic, hoodie, wrap cardigan and wide-leg pants. The loungewear will be accompanied by a pillow, blanket and sleeping mask.

The accessories collection continues to celebrate color, with saturated pops of tangerine orange, aqua blue and caramel, plus holographic and iridescent materials to match the theme.

New this season is the K/Letters range, which features “KARL” in hardware letters running down the side of the bag, and a decorative geometric chain which can be converted into an extra-long shoulder strap. Cut from ultra-soft, slightly slouchy leather, it is available in small and large sizes; these are further accompanied by an on-trend water bottle in holpgraphic TPU.

The coveted K/Autograph plays with color pops and a new feature: the “KL” hardware has a tone-on-tone finish to match the leather. There are also three small silhouettes in patent leather (black, white and tangerine), with the tone-on-tone hardware.

The K/Kushion returns with a new “braided” exterior technique, made from soft leather with a padded effect. It is available as a clutch and a tote in smoke blue, okra, black and white.

Bright hues — like smoke blue and tangerine — enliven the K/Ikon, which comes in a new half-moon, crossbody silhouette. There are also special-edition styles in luxe raffia and with a striking whipstitch technique.

The retro arcade theme inspires playful wallets and bags, which mimic the appearance of a joystick, old school telephone and radio.

The KARL SEVEN range explores color block themes and iridescent finishes, while the K/Signature returns with a new shape: a bucket silhouette with a top handle and crossbody strap. There are also a range of Signature straps in several colors, which can be used interchangeably on most KARL LAGERFELD bags.

Embracing a summer-ready aesthetic, the K/Skuare family includes a squareshaped tote and camera bag crafted from natural woven canvas. They are embellished with a webbing logo detail and a rubberized KARL LAGERFELD logo.

Finally, the beloved Choupette is featured in a cyber interpretation on crossbody bags, in silver, blue, and pearly white to match her fur.
