A Good Skin

This month, we bring a homemade face-mask to fight oily skin and promote a glowing complexion. The Spa at Park Hyatt Doha sponsors OHLALA’s DIY beauty tip for December.

This common and resilient flower can be spotted in many gardens, even in the Middle East. Its bright yellow/orange colour signifies the sun’s energy, a source of vitality. Also known as calendula, marigold has been used in natural medicine for centuries. It is considered beneficial in reducing inflammation and promoting healing.

Marigold has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, can act as an antiseptic agent and works as an excellent astringent. It also controls face oil production by balancing the sebaceous glands and has glycoprotein and nucleoprotein that helps skin cell generation.

The other ingredients in this mask are yoghurt, which contains lactic acid, and alpha-hydroxy acid that removes dead skin cells. A dose of rose water to maintain the skin’s pH balance and control excess oil. And finally, lemon, which is rich in vitamins C and B, phosphorus and carbohydrates to fight free radicals.

OHLALA’s
Marigold Face Mask for Oily Skin

What you’ll need:
1 tbsp marigold flower paste
1 tsp natural yoghurt
1 tsp rose water
½ tsp lemon juice

How to make and apply it:

  1. Make the marigold paste. Get three florets, open them, and remove the petals. You will find some black parts, discard them and keep only the orange portions of the petals. Wash and put them in a blender with two tbsp of water to help with the consistency. Blend them well into a smooth paste.
  2. Mix the paste with yoghurt, rose water and lemon juice.
  3. Wash your face and apply the mask. Let it dry and leave it for 15 minutes.
  4. Wash it off with lukewarm water and continue with your  beauty routine.
  5. Use it fresh and apply this paste twice a week for best results.
