For something more results-driven than just a relaxing massage, Sirine Boudjadi headed to The Diplomatic Club Spa, which delivered on every count.

Given everything that has happened in the region, carving out time for yourself hits differently. That was the headspace I was in when I walked into The Diplomatic Club Spa in the heart of West Bay. Spa supervisor Marie greeted me with a warm welcome and because I had timed my visit right at Iftar, I was handed a date and a glass of laban before we started. For non-fasting guests, detox water infused with cucumber, lime and mint was also available, alongside a fragrant mint and orange juice finished with a touch of anise powder. Both are worth trying. The space set the mood right away: marble floors, gold archways, dark walnut panelling and starlit ceilings in the treatment rooms. Thoughtful, calm and instantly soothing.
SERIOUS BODY WORK
I had two treatments on the agenda, and neither of them was your standard wind-down massage. First up, the Thalgo Body Sculpt Slimming, a protocol designed to target cellulite, improve skin texture and firm the silhouette. The brand recommends six to 12 sessions to see real results, so come in knowing this is a course, not a one-off fix.
The therapist started with the High Performance Firming Cream, removed it with a warm towel, then worked in the Stomach and Waist Sculptor using drainage and remodelling movements. The Slimming Massage Concentrate followed, applied with fast, activating strokes. Next up, Thalgo’s Body Palp technology: cupping tools in two sizes for different zones, four pressure levels for different tolerances, all calibrated throughout. I’m generally sceptical of body devices. I find a skilled therapist’s hands do a more intelligent job than most machines. But cupping is a different territory. It’s a manual tool, one that extends what the hands are already doing rather than substituting for them. One session in and I already felt lighter. The draining movements alone make it worth it.

Still in body-optimisation mode, I moved on to the 50-minute Sports Massage for a very different kind of work. Don’t let the name put you off: you don’t need to be an athlete to benefit, but you do need to be ready for something more intense than your average massage. Think medium to strong pressure, deep muscle work and a lot of assisted stretching, all delivered with a grapeseed and citrus oil. At the end, the therapist asked me to sit up so she could properly address my neck – a small detail but a big difference. Most of them stop at the lying position and call it done. Sitting upright makes a real difference, as the neck and the base of the skull are where so much tension actually lives. The effect isn’t the usual melt-into-the-table feeling. It’s more like a deep reset: muscles released, circulation kicked back into gear and a body that suddenly feels far more mobile.
GLOW UP
With my muscles properly reset, it was time to show my skin the same level of care with a HydraFacial. Over the years, it’s become something of a global skincare staple and for good reason. If you’ve never tried one, here’s the quick brief: it’s a multi-step, non-invasive facial that combines deep cleansing, exfoliation and hydration in a single session, with zero downtime. The Platinum version at The Diplomatic Club Spa adds lymphatic drainage and LED therapy to the core protocol, plus all three targeted boosters, making it the most thorough iteration of the treatment. The therapist started with lymphatic drainage, working to reduce puffiness and stimulate circulation, prepping my face for everything that followed. We moved on to the cleanse and exfoliation part, using a blend of glycolic and salicylic acids to unclog pores and improve overall clarity.

Next came the boosters, which is really where the Platinum earns its name. Three applied in sequence, each targeting a specific concern. First, the Restore booster to improve hydration, suppleness and plumpness. Then Hydralock HA (made with a triple hyaluronic acid complex, vitamin B5 and fruit extracts), which does exactly what it sounds like: helping maintain healthy moisture levels, keeping the complexion smooth and supporting the barrier. Finally, Britenol is designed to tackle pigmentation. Powered by alpha-arbutin, vitamin C and bearberry extract, it works to visibly brighten and even out tone. For anyone dealing with sun damage or post-inflammatory marks, relevant for most of us living in this climate, that last part is worth the session alone. To finish: a Thalgo sheet mask paired with LED light therapy and a final antioxidant infusion delivered through the machine with hyaluronic acid, red algae extract, copper, zinc and magnesium peptides. My skin looked immediately cleaner, brighter and more even. Definitely the kind of result that makes cancelling your evening plans feel like a reasonable option. The therapist’s parting advice: don’t wash your face, don’t apply anything and don’t exercise until the next day. Just let everything settle. Honestly, the best kind of homework.
