It’s not every day that you get to spend time in a vehicle that oozes sophistication, power and poise like it’s walking the red carpet. But this month, OHLALA got to do exactly that. From the moment we engaged with Audi’s new flagship SUV – the new Q8 55 TFSI – we were impressed by every aspect of this suave and spirited S line stunner, enriched by a tasteful selection of optional enhancements.
BOLD BY DESIGN Sculptured to belong on a runway, our test drive model was painted in Sakhir Gold Metallic – a shade that’s subtle at dusk and striking under the Arabian sun. One of the first things we noticed about the Q8 was its presence. This SUV doesn’t whisper premium – it announces it. Boldly. With grace. It’s the automotive equivalent of a designer kaftan: luxe, flowy and unapologetically chic.
The Singleframe grille takes centre stage, decked out in high-gloss black as part of the Black Styling Package. Add the S line’s aggressive bumpers, sleek roof spoiler and those imposing 22-inch Audi Sport 5-V-spoke wheels and you’ve got an SUV that knows how to command attention. Whether it’s cruising down the corniche or valet-posing outside your favourite brunch spot, it’s sure to turn heads.
Lighting is another theatrical flourish. The HD Matrix LED headlights with Audi laser light are functional and fabulous. Paired with digital OLED rear lights that adapt and even respond to nearby vehicles, the Q8 isn’t just aware of its surroundings; it interacts with them.
CABIN COUTURE Sliding inside the cabin felt like entering an upmarket private lounge, only this one came with Valcona leather sport seats, intricate diamond stitching and the unmistakable S line embossing. We adored the dash, adorned in Gray Oak trim that struck a perfect balance between understated elegance and refreshingly uncluttered design.
The sense of space was immediately impressive, with generous headroom, wide, comfortable seating and a panoramic sunroof that bathed the interior in soft natural light. Audi has even included electric sunshades in the rear – a discreet yet thoughtful nod to passengers in the back, who, naturally, deserve the same VIP treatment. When day turned to night, a gentle cascade of ambient lighting took over, making the transition into evening driving feel effortlessly refined.
Our model also featured Dinamica microfibre headlining and sleek black finishes, enhancing the overall sense of quiet luxury.
TECH WITH TASTE If you’re tech-obsessed – or simply someone who enjoys not fumbling around with buttons – Audi’s MMI Navigation Plus with dual touchscreens makes every interaction feel smooth and satisfying.
We managed to sync our devices in seconds with Audi Smartphone Interface, accessed navigation with zero fuss and cranked up the volume on the Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium Sound System, which made our playlist sound like a private concert in a velvet-lined theatre.
There’s also the Audi phone box light for wireless charging and signal boosting, keeping your phone effortlessly powered and perfectly connected, no cords or clutter in sight.
PRECISION IN MOTION Now, let’s get to the juicy bit. The 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged petrol engine delivers 340hp and 500Nm of torque with silky finesse, achieving an effortless 0-100km/h time of 5.6 seconds. That’s more than enough to overtake with elegance, join a fast-flowing highway without drama or just to feel a little smug when the light turns green.
The quattro all-wheel drive system, paired with adaptive air suspension sport, creates a drive that is plush yet poised. Whether we were skimming across pristine highways or navigating a gravel driveway to a desert villa, the Q8 kept its composure.
We also loved the mild hybrid system. It lets the car coast with the engine off, saves fuel and restarts so smoothly, we hardly noticed – a quiet genius behind the scenes.
SMART SAFETY SYSTEMS We all like to think we’re excellent drivers – but it’s nice to have backup. The Q8 is equipped with a full suite of safety and assistance features that act like a team of invisible copilots.
From lane departure warning, lane change assist and rear cross-traffic alert to Audi pre sense front and rear, it watches your back (and your sides and your front) like a very stylish guardian angel. There are ISOFIX points in the rear for the little ones and power latching doors for the times you’re juggling shopping bags and a toddler.
Add cruise control with speed limiter and airbags all round and you’ve got a cocoon of confidence wherever you go. There’s even an exit warning – a subtle alert to prevent you or your passengers from opening the door into oncoming traffic.
