Scale7 successfully hosted jewellery-making with metal workshop

Empowering entrepreneurs in fashion and design industry

Scale7, the first fashion and design business incubator in Qatar – founded by Qatar Development Bank (QDB) in partnership with M7, hosted yet another successful series of Digital Fabrication Intensive Courses under “The Labs program”, with an aim to empower entrepreneurs in the fashion and design ecosystem with practical experience.

The jewellery making workshop that took place between February 28 and March 2, 2022, witnessed the participation of  7 promising talents. The 3-day intensive course was focused on ‘jewellery making with metal’ for design and jewellery enthusiasts.

Through this highly interactive workshop, the participants were able to learn basic techniques for jewellery-making with metal and experimented with different techniques such as using callipers, transferring the metal into jewellery piece with a scribe tool, finger size calculation, working on textures with hammers and other tools, and giving shape to metal sheet & wire, polishing the metal using sandpaper, files, compounds and brushes, etc. By the end of the workshop, each participant had made a piece of jewellery from scratch.

The program was directed by Valentina Barella, founder of Oriunda Jewels, a jewellery maker and designer, graduated in languages and international communication and in Accessory & Jewellery Design at Politecnico of Milan. She co-founded Fucina Orafa, the first jewellery hub and coworking space in Milan.

Commenting on the success of the workshop, Ms. Aysha Khalifa Al Romaihi, Project Manager of Scale7, said, “After having successfully conducted various fab lab workshops in the past, our jewellery-making workshop with metal yet again witnessed huge participation from the budding fashion tech startups.”

“Such overwhelming response only strengthens our vision to offer newer paradigms of growth for our incredible fashion & design entrepreneurs. Keeping up with the vision to support them in their endeavours, we will continue to provide such interesting workshops for the design enthusiasts in the future too and encourage them to take on newer growth trajectories,” she added.
