Tradition Meets Elegance

Inspired by nature, Selma Benomar weaves traditional influences and modern designs into her Ramadan collection.

Over the years, designers have perceived and presented ethnic styles in new and innovative ways. The brand Manish Arora is an example of mixing psychedelic colour palettes and kitsch motifs while combining traditional Indian embroidery, appliqué and beading with Western silhouettes.

Moroccan-French fashion designer Selma Benomar brings a collection of dresses and kaftans that showcases the best of both worlds. Her style blends the traditional handwork of Moroccan artisans with modern cuts, colours and fabrics, with 20 designs this season. Inspired by nature, the collection features flowery details, as well as embroidery, beads and Swarovski crystals, which give an elegant, luxe look and feel to the outfits without being overpowering.

Each piece has a unique belt to go with it, and they range from more traditional designs in the shape of a cord to more detailed, embroidered, crystal-studded ones. The collection showcases pastel yellows, blues and greens, referencing the natural world that surrounds us. Fabrics such as crêpe silk, lamé silk and French lace are used throughout the capsule, which complements the flowy structure of a kaftan. Lamé silk gives the pieces a shine while keeping them light and easy to wear and carry when attending a family gathering during Ramadan or Eid celebrations.
