SANTAL ODEYAR, MAJESTIC SCENT FOR EID

Within all Chopard fragrances lies a soul and a beating heart, those of Caroline Scheufele, Chopard Co-President and the muse behind all the Maison’s perfumes. It is she who designs its fragrant universe, just as she invents the jewellery and ornaments that make it unique.

Chopard perfumery is a book, a never-ending story. The precious, magical new chapter now opening is dedicated to woods – both enchanting and enchanted. Like a timeless walk that invites us to stop and admire a scene or a tree, to listen to the song of a bird, or simply to dream, this chapter has three parts: Santal Odeyar, Bois Nomades and Patchouli de Sumatra.

The first, Santal Odeyar, is a luminous woody scent combined with floral and fruity notes. It features majestic white Indian sandalwood, one of the most precious woods in the world. Perfumers have been using this for centuries to enrich their creations and give them depth, sweetness and a certain mystery.

The second fragrance is an imaginary meeting of two legendary trees: Moroccan Atlas cedar; and Aquilaria (Agar) from Sylhet, in the north-east of Bangladesh, which produces Oud. These have been combined with rose to soften their fiery character. Cedar essential oil has been prized for centuries in perfumery. Perfumers use it to add vibrancy and structure to a composition: cedar can run through the entire olfactory pyramid, from top to bottom notes. With its dry, green, resinous, lively and sophisticated wood notes, Moroccan Atlas cedar possesses extraordinary olfactory qualities.

The third opus in this collection is a composition based on patchouli. This is not however an earthy, dark patchouli that would appear as base notes, but instead a luminous, fresh, energetic fragrance, as if there were a wellspring of patchouli in which you could take a refreshing dip. This beautiful raw material is present from the very first notes. It has been crafted in an unexpected way pervaded by a fresh touch. Fresh and patchouli are two words one is not accustomed to saying in one breath, yet the talent of perfumer Dora Baghriche lay in associating these two apparently incompatible elements. She has created a crystalline, fresh, sparkling yet strongly present fragrance. Wearing it induces a compelling sense of well-being.
