Inspired by Paul Smith’s long lasting connection with music, the autumn/winter ‘21 Paul Smith women’s collection takes you on a journey through the musical subcultures of the last five decades, referencing iconic British moments for a new generation.

Taking the opportunity for reflection and re-evaluation has encouraged Paul Smith to reconsider the suit for a modern world, presenting an updated take on tailoring that examines shape, fabrication and fit for a fresh perspective.

As a mainstay of the Paul Smith women’s wardrobe, the suit has always offered a pragmatic option to workwear dressing, fulfilling the requirements of corporate and formal dressing. As these needs have changed so has tailoring, to meet the demands of the wearer.

Autumn/Winter ‘21 sees classic suits relaxed and softened, to prioritise ease of wear and a break from formality, while classic British tailoring cloths have been reworked and revitalised with fresh colours.Tailoring expertise has been utilised to modernise and re-imagine the suit for a renewed perspective.

Tailoring precision has been used to refine and update classic utilitarian womenswear designs. A gingham checked slimline four-button suit features black wool contrast panelled trousers and jacket, where the back is black and the front features the black-and-grey gingham check.

Trousers are high waisted and cropped with a severe cuffed hem, mid-calf and wide, lending a casual informal look. Wide-leg long line trousers come as separates, tailored yet relaxed, offered in a disrupted rose print, check or plain wool options. Suit jackets are a four-button high lapel style, which is a nod to the 1970s and offers a casual air and break from traditional cuts, offered in gold, check and stripe.

Co-ordinated dressed down tailoring is provided by way of a military shirt and wide-leg trouser combination as an alternative to the suit jacket. A military inspired cropped collarless jacket in black wool gives a rock edge, which can be worn with tailored trousers or dressed down with jeans.

A core seasonal colour palette of wintery greens, purples and browns feels fresh, with pops of zesty highlight colours in lime, orange and pink.

The mood is one of ease and British eclecticism, a nonchalance that is imbued with a smart, tailored spirit. This is tailoring that has fully adapted to the pace of life in 2021.
