Galeries Lafayette Doha announces exclusive collaboration with award-winning designer Banke Kuku

Galeries lafayette Collaboration with Banke Kuku

Adding yet another unique name to their already impressive brand collection, Galeries Lafayette Doha has signed an exclusive collaboration with Lagos-based fashion designer Banke Kuku.

The pop-up, which opened on March 23, 2022, marks the first physical Middle Eastern partnership for the brand.

Showcasing an exclusive 1970s Nigeria-inspired collection with a Middle Eastern twist, the brand has added a distinct color to Galeries Lafayette Doha this spring. It presents Banke Kuku’s exclusive Ramadan Collection, an eccentric mix of bold prints and glamorous styles, all designed with 100 percent satin silk.

“It is a dream come true to be showcasing in the Middle East, which has always been one of my favorite destinations in the world, and a huge influence on the brand. I can’t wait to see the reaction to our exclusive range. It is an absolute honor to have been selected to showcase at Galeries Lafayette Doha,” said Banke Kuku.

The brand’s popular kaftan has been reimagined in an array of exciting prints and styles. The “Fringe Kaftan” takes inspiration from gracious and exciting 1970s parties in Nigeria, and the made-to-move silhouette was designed to ensure absolute comfort in the Middle Eastern sun.

Also included in the line-up are the Coin Agbada and the Kuku Monogram Abada, striking pieces which are guaranteed to bring an African flair to the Middle East, and both are completed with matching silk headscarves.

The Middle East’s eclectic culture and preservation of tradition is a point of early inspiration for the exclusive Ramadan Edit. Family is a reoccurring theme in this collection; an extensive kids’ wear range is available in a selection of prints, perfect for mothers who want to match with their kids.

Speaking about the new collaboration, General Manager of Galeries Lafayette Doha Kevin Pender said: “We are always trying to bring in a new style and perspective to fashion. This latest collaboration with the award-winning designer brings to spotlight the glamour of Nigerian fashion in the 1970s. Banke Kuku’s latest collection is flamboyant yet comfortable. It is a perfect addition to the wardrobe collection of fashionistas in Qatar.”
