What have you done in the past hour? Are you counting the days until something special? The truth is that time regulates our lives, and Miss Ohlala wonders about it.
Time organises our daily lives, creates events and gives us a true feeling of living. But it is also something we tend to fight with. It’s, without a doubt, a fascinating topic for fiction stories. How many books, films and TV series have been created around time travellers and time machines? It feels like we want to control it. We are always trying to look younger and, as time machines go, we seem interested in changing history. But most of all, it seems there is never enough of it.
Throughout history, there have been numerous ways to keep track of hours by using sundials, hourglasses and punching tablets. According to archaeological evidence, the Babylonians and Egyptians started to measure time around 5,000 years ago. Their particular interest was in creating some sort of calendar and time recording to regulate planting and harvesting cycles.
Nowadays, as we’ve seen in our coverage from Watches and Wonders Geneva 2023, the passage of hours is tracked in magnificent timepieces. Skilled horologists have been using technology and incredible materials to develop unique watches. Some of them even look like stunning jewellery pieces.
However, we still haven’t managed to rule and manipulate time as we want. No matter what, we are still servants of the passing hours, minutes and seconds – so let’s enjoy it to the best of our ability.
